Pearl was born in Minnesota in 1914 and came to Oregon during WWII to work in the shipyards. She owned the Red Apple Market in Portland for many years, and after her husband's death, moved to Hood River to run the orchard that they owned. She was known in the valley as the "Cat Lady," and her love of farming was apparent in the variety of fruits she grew and the regulars that came to buy them, even without an advertised farm stand.
In 2003 Pearl passed away, and the Wells family honored her name and tradition by opening Pearl's Place farm stand. We hope to live up to her standards by continuing her passion for farming and love of community!
